About this lecture

A body moves, two observers watch it, and one of them is spinning. This lecture builds the kinematics of rotating axes out of a single fact, that a basis vector painted on a turning body has derivative omega crossed with itself, and then applies that fact twice. Out come the velocity relation, the five-term acceleration relation, and with them the Euler, centripetal and Coriolis terms, each named and lit as it is spoken. We finish by carrying the extra terms across the equals sign, where they become the centrifugal and Coriolis forces a rider on the turntable genuinely feels, and by watching one launched ball fly dead straight over the ground while curving the whole way out on the disc.
